Seclusion Cage
Food Plotters often talk about crop failure because nothing seemed to grow in the plot they planted, especially in small sized plots.
The plants germinated fine, but never grew more than a few inches. While it appeared that the planting failed, often times the culprit is heavy deer browsing pressure.
This is where a seclusion cage is important. A seclusion cage is a simple, wire exclosure that prevents deer from feeding in a small portion of a plot. The planting can grow inside of the cage without browse pressure, providing a visual gauge of browsing pressure outside of it.
If the planting inside of the cage is green, lush, and tall, while outside of the cage there is only crop stubble, you probably have too many deer for your current habitat conditions.
